We are told that Waterloo Region is changing the timing of traffic lights to make it safer for pedestrians. They call it “Leading Pedestrian Interval.” From 8:30 to 9:00 am and 3:00 to 3:30 pm there will be 5 seconds where the pedestrian walk signal will be displayed before the corresponding green light for vehicles will be displayed. “This allows pedestrians to begin crossing and establish their presence in the intersection before vehicles are allowed to proceed.” This is to begin May 1 at Frederick and Lancaster, and May 3 at Frederick and Otto.
