Located in the heart of downtown Kitchener, Suddaby is a historic building that first opened as a school in January 1857. The first kindergarten class in Ontario was taught at Suddaby in 1882, by Miss Janet Metcalfe. As visitors walk through our front hall, they have the opportunity to admire an oil painting of Jeremiah Suddaby that was painted in 1912 by A. Y. Jackson, one of the original members of the Group of Seven.
Today, Suddaby is a JK to Grade 6 school with a population of approximately 485 students and 55 staff members. Suddaby has a very diverse student population, with 38 different languages represented in our community. We have an ELL program that supports students whose first language is not English and offer French Immersion beginning in Grade One. The staff at Suddaby is dedicated to ensuring that all students have a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment that supports their academic achievement and well-being. Staff work diligently with students and families to build relationships to ensure each and every student can reach his/her full potential.
